Travis & Tara's Trip
Through Southern Arizona & New Mexico
March 16 - 25, 2001
Date: Thursday, March 23, 2001
Route: Benson, AZ - Tucson, AZ
Approximate mileage: 44 + side trips
Thursday morning, we headed to the "free breakfast" room and noticed we were
by far the youngest there. Oh well. We went to "Collosal Cave", which was
more commercialized and smaller than Carlsbad Caverns, but was still fun.
They had an outdoor 'ranch' like area, including a corral with tortises.
Tortises inside, People Outside, the sign indicates. That bit of excitement
over with, we headed to Tucson, and after checking into the Doubletree Hotel
At Reid Park, Tucson (Tara's coworker Sandy got us a good deal on priceline),
we went to the Pima Air and Space Museum, a highlight of the trip for Travis
(although he liked going to the Titan Missile Silo more). It may have cost
a token amount to get in and see all sorts of planes, but then again, it
may have been free.
Here's an old Air Force 1, and we could even go inside! It was a testament
to high fashion from whatever bygone era it was used in.
Here's a giant guppy plane, one of two made. Taxpayer dollars at work.
Here's Travis's favorite plane, the blackbird. (Shown with a drone!) One
could tell Travis's level of excitement, because he thoroughly documented
this plane.
After plane-seeing, we had a fantastic dinner at some mexican restaurant
(the best Mole Poblano Tara's ever had), and contemplated where we'd go the
next day. We decided on going to the Titan Missile Museum, and made reservations
accordingly.
