Travis and Tara's New England Adventure
March 22 - 30, 2002

Monday morning found Travis and Tara embarking on the trek to Boston. The trip involved passing through four states, which caused several minutes of conversation in the car. We had planned to stop in Hartford for lunch after visiting a nearby dinosaur park (with real tracks!!!). Unfortunately, the park wasn't open Mondays. Any disappointment we felt was quickly overcome as we entered downtown Hartford, a surprisingly nice place for a state with a reputation as unsavory as Connecticut (Rumours Tara had heard, at least). Seeing the historic architecture made Tara excited about sight-seeing in Boston. Lunch was at a lovely Italian restaurant in Hartford.

Here's a picture Tara took of the State Capitol Park entrance (from the middle of the street). Some tourists asked us for directions to the capitol, which was immediately on our left. The park itself was beautiful, and Tara found herself contemplating moving to Hartford.
Here is the capitol building. It reminds me of French / Austrian castles I've seen in pictures.

Parts of Boston are, evidently, Thickly settled. One can also notice the tilt to some of the power poles, something that doesn't seem to cause much concern to the locals. Signs such as this were only one of the surprises in store for us as we attempted navigating around Boston for the next few days.

We arrived at Travis's friends Rusty and Wendy's house in the late afternoon, and met there more of the gang, Barb and Chris (and little Cady) who were also visiting from California (Sacramento). We all went out to eat dinner at the Rainforest Cafe.

The next day we all had very ambitious plans to sightsee on the Freedom Trail in Boston.
