Travis and Tara's New England Adventure
March 22 - 30, 2002

We arrived in Philadelphia late on Thursday night to a snow storm! Well, it might not be considered a snow storm by many, but we were freezing, and not quite prepared, to say the least. Because of the snow storm, we changed our driving plan, deciding to stick to major freeways... er... turnpikes. We were staying with Tara's friend Tracey who lives in Milford, PA (on the border where NJ, NY, and PA meet). Driving in the middle of the night though the snow storm was challenging, although not as challenging as asking the locals for directions. We stopped at a rest-stop McDonalds somewhere along the NE EXT PA TPK (Their abbreviation), and the person had no idea how to get us to Milford. All we needed were directions on how to get through Scranton, but they were unable to help. Tara finally asked another visitor (driving to Connecticut), and we were on our way.

The next morning, we planned to go to see the Statue of Liberty, and then pick up another of Tara's friends, George, from the airport. Unfortunately, it took us a couple of hours to get Tracey's dog back in the house, so we had missed the ferry that would take us to go to the Statue. It was freezing, and as one couldn't get close to the statue anyhow (in the name of "security"), I'm not sure we missed much.

Tara had been to The City a couple times before, and was upset at the lack of twin towers on the skyline.

This is our rental car. It started out Dark Blue, but Travis had driven it through several salt banks during the snow storm the previous night.
Here is a picture of the VerrazanoNarrows Bridge. Verrazano was an explorer unsuccessfully looking for a NorthWest Passage to the Pacific. He took one look at what would later be called New York and sailed away as fast as he could.
