April 2006

April was a nice month. Really. And everything went into Alex's mouth.

April 4.
We were lucky enough to have Grandma Barbara visiting again... we don't expect her back until June, but she'll bring Grandpa Jack, which is some consolation. Here's Alex, very pleased to be fawned over - not just by mommy, but by grandma too!

April 4, April 6
Grandma and Alex. This is the week when everything went into his mouth. Grandma was kept busy juggling toys for Alex to put in his mouth. This diversion allowed me to perform the two-handed activities which had been marginalized when I was tending the baby on my own.

Alex as the slobber monster. As mentioned earlier, everything goes into his mouth - including people. Every time grandma or I would go to kiss him, he'd attempt to mouth our faces. I guess it's one of those traits that seem so endearing when performed by a baby.
When my sister was a wee bairn, I used to play a game with her - I was the tickle monster (and would tickle her), and she was the kissy monster (and would kiss me). The game has continued on to the next generation, where I now have evolved into the kissy monster and Alex is the slobber monster. (I've great hopes that the tickle monster will emerge, as well.)

April 7.
Alex and "Crispy Book". Crispy book is a present from my mom, along with a whole easter basket full of goodies. Each toy only amuses for so long (at a time) before he wants the next one, so often all his toys will be scattered in a circle around whoever is playing with him. The purple & orange toy is the "ten-teated twisty teether toy", which is a mouthful just to say.

April 13
Alex and Papa, telling jokes.
"You remind me of a man."  "A man?"
"A man with the power." "What power?"
"The power of hoodoo." "Hoodoo?"
"You do." "Do what?"
"Remind me of a man...."
... or something like that.

April 15.
Alex and Luvvy the Bunny.
Luvvy the Bunny is actually a cat dressed up as a mouse, and was among the presents from my mama for the grandbaby's easter. I suspect I'm the one who named him as Bunny, but Grandma Barbara did go along with it. She pointed out that it wasn't a bunny at all, but the name was already entrenched in my mind.
Bunny, mouse, or kitty, it goes in his mouth. Alex is omnivorous.
April 22.
Spit-rag coated fingers are a delicacy for Alex. Or at least, to be heartily enjoyed.

April 27 (below).
Here he is mouthing more of his toys. That is what he did in April.
When he's chomping down and concentrating, he reminds me of Calvin (of Hobbes fame).
