November 2006

He cruises, he flings, he waves, he drools. He decided to stop sleeping through the night. We've almost survived a year.

November 1.
I bought him one of his Christmas presents - which he enjoyed pushing around as if it were a walker until I managed to take it upstairs. Am I ruining the surprise? I suspect he won't remember.
And yes, Papa will (eventually) let Alex play with his Legos.

November 1.
Alex loves yogurt. No really, he LOVES yogurt. If visitors come to see him, they're offered to feed him the yogurt. Because there's always room for yogurt.

November 3.
Rearranging the Foster - Hamilton section of the bookshelves. You may ask why I let him pull the books off the shelf to get this picture. Travis asked me.
I don't bother trying to keep the bottom two shelves in order anymore.
His favorite books, by the way, come from the Pournelle - Sheffield section... "Green Mars" and "A Miracle of Rare Design"... both hardbacks in a sea of paperbacks.

November 6.
Olympic diaper flinging. This is after he switched off from right-hand flinging to left. His preferred method is over-the-shoulder, although he sometimes has a wicked out-to-the-side technique. He will fling all diapers out of the basket, then put them back in. Well, he'll put one back in, but then he flings that. Impatient, this one is.
Notice the drool marks on his onesie. I remember thinking before that his drool had to have been teething. I hadn't seen anyhing yet.

November 12.
...and flinging the laundry. Once he gets through all the pieces he can reach easily, he starts leaning forward into the basket... or sometimes he'll put a couple pieces back in.
The baby gate he sees as his own individual sized door to play with.

November 19.
Alex watching TV (Boohbah, probably. Maybe Teletubbies). By this point, he waves to the TV sometimes. And most everything - cars, the wall, lights, the cat, the dog... but not Papa in the morning when he leaves for work.

November 22.
So when the baby seems to be quiet for too long, as he's sitting by your feet while you watch some TV, it's probably because he has a quiet toy, like Kleenex. His position shows the proliferation of the left over-the-shoulder flinging. And how can someone be cranky when he's so pleased with himself? He really seemed to enjoy the way he could fling, and there'd still be another flingee waiting for him.

November 27.
Grandma visiting again! Here she's showing him how his ridealong doubles as a commode.
See the drool?
See the socks?
See the toys all over the floor?

November 30.
Our friend Jessica gave us a musical xylophone book. Alex is learning the key sequence here for "Oh How Lovely Is The Evening".

November 30.
Alex being content with Grandma. The xylophone mallet is what's in his mouth.

November 30.
This day, I left Alex in the safety of Grandma Barbara's custody while I zipped to Travis's work to pick up the camera's tripod. When I returned, Joanie and Allison had arrived, and Alex was crawling around the room with this bird dangling from his mouth. They thought it was funny.
