July 2006

July 2.
"Look Ma, two hands!"
I really like the shirt he's wearing - unfortunately, it was rapidly becoming too small. I made the deal with myself that if I got pictures of the baby wearing an outfit, it was okay to put it in the bag of clothes that he had outgrown. It works, mostly.

July 2.
Alex has this thing about pointing - he's often pointing at something. Whether or not what he's pointing at has any interest is debatable. He's sitting up well now, and holding "Green Elephant" by a leg.

July 10.
Papa feeding Alex what is probably "Plums, bananas, and rice" organic baby food. Alex really enjoys it - almost as good as "peaches, bananas and oatmeal". By the end of the month, Alex is usually having two non-milk meals per day. One of them is usually rice cereal, the other baby food.

July 11.
Alex smiling in his cage. He is holding the famous "ten teated twisty teether toy", which he still looks at more than anything. Is he teething yet? As Grandma Barbara says, "He's been teething since he was two weeks old." I guess he'll get his teeth when he gets them. It's not as though I'm anxious for him to get teeth while he's still nursing.

July 11.
Alex, hanging upside-down. Even more fun than hanging this way is being swung this way. For some reason, being upside-down causes him to put his hands in his mouth. On July 7, my mom and I took Alex to the swimming pool, and we had a blast... until he scratched his left eye. To make the scratches easily visible, they put a yellow stain in his eye, which doesn't wash out easily. So in the above picture especially, you can see a bit of yellow eye shadow. It's the stain.

July 12.
Alex playing at his cubbys. Although in this picture he's innocently playing with his stacking rings, his favorite past-time at this play station is to pull out all the animals from their cubbys.

July 13.
As he will happily play in his cage, sometimes I'll stock it with his favorite toys and let him entertain himself. The Devil Ducky (R) was a gift to me from one of my friends that I blithely offered Alex one day. It became one of his favorite toys. Surprisingly, I'm not sure which one of my friends gave me the devil ducky (R).
Devil Ducky (R) and all his friends may be purchased from Archie McPhee. Also from Archie McPhee, one can purchase pink lawn flamingos, toy catapults, tiki party favors, bacon bandaids, cocktail monkeys, and lots more. I want the Hindu finger puppets.

July 16.
Six days later, and Alex still is excited about Papa feeding him food. This flavor looks more like plums and apples. (The high chair, by the way, came from Joanie, who has also shopped at Archie McPhee's. Although she most definitely did not give me the devil ducky, she is responsible for the creation of the TAO duck, and used to have the "dead duck".)

July 23.
Alex playing with his mobile. (Yes, I know he's in the shirt that I had earlier mentioned was getting too small. This is the last time it'll be pictured. Probably. The shirt came from Amy Peck, who probably did not give me the Devil Ducky.)
Anyways, Alex has gotten great mileage out of the mobile (from Paul & Adrienne), first learing he could  use his feet to change the song, then his hands to pull the dangly bits from the mobile, and lastly, to use his feet again to change the settings and sometimes turn the mobile off.

July 23.
Sometimes, he likes kicking the mobile, too. If you notice though, he's now on his tummy, and still appears to be happy. Tummy time is no longer a trauma, now that he can roll onto his back at will. (The stacking rings, by the way, came from Autumn, who did not give me the Devil Ducky. Autumn was also given a TAO duck, but it resides at our mom's house.)

July 24.
A tired mommy and baby. I had sent Travis out to retrieve supper for us, and by the time he returned, Alex was passed out against me. Even though his head gets all sweaty when he sleeps against me, I still like it.

July 25.
Alex eating more babyfood from Papa. Papa is very involved in taking care of his offspring - not only has he fed the baby nearly every day, but he is responsible for selecting Alex's pajamas and changing Alex's diaper for the night.

July 29.
We were back at the pool, this time with Papa, Grandmama, Mikey, and a camera with a memory card (an improvement from previous trips). After vigorously swimming in the pool, he was tired, but still up for cheerful play with grandma.

July 29.
Alex was apparently excited about Papa taking pictures, for he lunged forward in his stroller. His swim trunks, which I like, claim that he's a lifeguard. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

July 31.
Alex and Caira, cohabiting on the changing table. On days when she's not following us around the house, she is usually spotted at changing time - hogging the space on the counter. I don't push her off - merely make sure there is room for Alex. Sometimes he uses her expansive belly as a pillow, which she tolerates much better than when I try it.
